The Amazing Spiderman review

The Amazing Spider-man Review

Hey! I can see my apartment from here!

Hello there True Believers! Another Spider-man game has set upon us. There has been quite a few of these web-crawling games through out console history. But when times change, so does the mechanics as well as what gamers are expecting to see. So, will Spider-Man succeed in vanquishing the enemy of modern standards, or will he be defeated by the sands of time? Stay tuned to find out video game gurus! Excelsior!

"Common-sense is tingling..."

This game takes place days after the movie, giving you a glimpse on what the next chapters may move towards. The beginning of the game has a great look. Oscorp seems to be up to no good as you take a small tour (or what I like to call a "Half-Life" intro) into its facilities with the lovely Gwen Stacy. Before you can say "Peter Parker, pepper, pickle" Everything goes to hell. "Cross Species" or more what I like to call Spider-mans "B-Listers" run rampant and also causing an epidemic due to the consequences of  Dr. Connors research.

B-Listers need love too.....

The game touches on some comic book fantasy which you will not see in the movies. Like gigantic spider hunting robots and web fluid which you do not seem to run out of. (which is not a bad thing) Swinging through the city in HD is fun but nothing really different. If the main story is too cliche then you can spice things up with a handful of side quests, meanwhile stopping petty crimes or helping the infected to a hospital. These aspects can also prove to be quite repetitive at times. The combat system is not tight.  You can see minor flaws in the sound effects as well as the hit boxes once it comes into contact. Old Web head has some
tricks/abilities which you can buy with your hard earned experience points. The game actually gets more interesting once you have your set of these useful abilities.  Also, the more you suck at dodging blows, lasers, or acid, you characters suit starts deteriorating. (Battle Damage)

"This is a job for.........The Avengers!!!"

All in all this game is fun, but nothing memorable or epic. I cant see myself 5 years down the road reminiscing about this Spider´s Tale.  Even though I am a Comic fan of this Super Hero, I was hoping for something different for these modern times. But it does feel relaxing/fun getting out of work, firing up the game console, and swinging through the streets of Manhattan. Doing the best a spider can by not letting everything go to hell in a hand-basket.

First Impression: The game has gloss. I enjoyed the intro. Flying through Manhattan looks awesome in HD. The massive boss battle frame rates are pretty stiff.

Control: The battle system is a bit off. Dodging and hitting are not tight. The camera angles are sometimes mis-adjusted when wall crawling.  Web-swinging and Web-zip are pretty fine tuned.

Immersion: The story line is not quite as epic, even though Manhattan is on the verge of going to hell. Once you start gaining more abilities, you start getting involved with the interactions of the game. (Brawling, webbing, Tech, etc.) Finding comics throughout the game is actually pretty cool and educative. When you find enough illustrations you unlock actual vintage comics of Spider-Man!

BARROW/RENT IT!!

Last Words:

"Web-Swing!" "Web-Ball" "Spider Sting!" "ULTIMATE SPIDER!!!" I like this spider better.
